If the face in the mirror has started to look much older than you feel, you may be a candidate for facial surgery. Deep facial folds, hanging skin, and jowls can all be addressed in a facelift. These problems can give you a permanently “tired” appearance, and are generally caused by the loss of facial volume that comes with age. Over time, the pull of gravity will take its toll on your skin, making it more prone to stretching and wrinkling.

A good facelift candidate should primarily be looking to tighten the loose skin in their face and neck area, specifically:

  • Loose skin on the jaw line (jowls)
  • Neck folds and fat
  • Creases on the side of the mouth
  • Deep lines/fold around the nose

In order to qualify for a facelift, you must be in good physical and psychological health. Smokers will need to quit prior to surgery to prevent complications with healing. Additionally, it’s important to know the limitations of facelift surgery – though it can achieve great results, it isn’t capable of perfecting your appearance or stopping the aging process. You should also have good skin elasticity, so your skin responds properly to the tightening process.
