The aging process causes a loss of skin and supporting tissue elasticity that can result in the development of sagging, wrinkles, and fine lines. However, due to the variability in aging, some patients may not need the full corrective abilities of a facelift.

For this reason, Dr. John J. W. Lee has specialized in providing minimally invasive facelifts that target specific areas of the face, offering targeted corrections with less recovery time. These procedures can result in a more youthful, natural-looking appearance.

Minimally Invasive Facelift Overview

As facial plastic surgeons have gained more understanding of facial contouring and the aging process, newer procedures using minimally invasive techniques have developed to target specific areas of aging while reducing the downtime needed after a surgical procedure.

Each minimally invasive procedure provides distinct benefits and can be used with additional procedures or injectables to give a greater degree of correction. Below are the various minimally invasive surgeries offered by board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. John Lee:

Mini Facelift

A “mini facelift” targets the signs of aging associated with the lower third of the face and jawline. It is ideal for patients looking to get rid of jowls (sagging skin below the jawline) and sagging skin affecting the lower third of the face. It provides patients with a faster recovery (1–3 weeks), less swelling and bruising, and no noticeable scarring.

Temple Lifts

Temple lifts use small hidden incisions in the hairline to elevate the outside brow and eyes. The procedure is ideal for targeting crow’s feet, dropping eyebrows, and improving wrinkles along the outer forehead. The minimally invasive technique allows many to return to work after a few days and return to exercises after one to two weeks.

Mid-Facelifts

A mid-facelift targets the area where the earliest signs of aging begin to appear, the cheeks. This procedure can provide lasting results in reversing the early signs of aging by raising the dropping of the cheeks and reducing the appearance of nasolabial folds (creases extending from the nose to the corner of the mouth).

PDO Thread Lifts in Philadelphia

This revolutionary technique involves inserting PDO threads designed to grab and hold tissue to provide instant lifting of the skin, tightening the underlying fat, and stimulating the natural production of collagen.

Liquid Facelifts

Using multiple injections of dermal fillers or Botox, Dr. John J. W. Lee can restore facial fullness and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and creases to provide a younger appearance. Liquid facelifts require virtually no recovery time, with many patients returning to work the same day. Unfortunately, these results are temporary but provide dramatic results for up to a year.

Who is a Good Candidate for Dr. Lee’s Minimally-Invasive Facelift Procedures?

A minimally invasive facelift is ideal for busy women and men with unwanted signs of aging who do not have the luxury of undergoing a lengthy recovery period. Deciding the best procedure depends on the problem areas requiring treatment.

Patients looking for immediate results at more affordable prices compared to surgical procedures are ideal candidates for a liquid facelift or PDO thread lift. However, those seeking longer-lasting corrections are better suited to undergo a mini, temple, or mid-facelift procedure.

For surgical procedures, candidates should be in good mental and physical health with no significant medical conditions associated with an increased risk of complications. Dermal fillers  and PDO thread procedures can be performed in those that may be less than ideal for a surgical procedure but may require additional clearances from your doctors.

Candidates for surgical procedures should be non-smokers or willing to quit to improve healing rates. Patients should have realistic expectations for the procedures to ensure the best overall outcome.

Minimally Invasive Facelift Cost

When determining the cost of a procedure, the price must include the surgeon fee, post-operative appointments, and any post-surgical garments needed after the procedure. If general anesthesia is required, the anesthesia costs, the anesthesiologist, the facility fee, and the support staff needed during the procedure must be included in the price.

The average prices for each procedure are listed below but may change depending on the degree of surgery or additional procedures needed to achieve the desired results.

  • Mid, temple, and mini facelift procedures. The average cost of these procedures is $9000. They are performed in the office and generally take an hour to perform using local anesthetics, which allows patients to drive to and from the procedure.
  • Liquid facelift procedure. Depending on the agent used and the amount needed, the cost may differ, but on average, for those using Botox, the cost is $13 a unit with a $600 minimum. If dermal fillers are used, the price can range from $750–$1100, depending on the type of filler used.

Factors That Determine the Cost of the Procedure

When it comes to determining the cost of a minimally invasive facelift, there are many additional aspects considered in the cost, which can include:

Geographic location. Larger cities and the West and East Coasts have a higher demand for cosmetic procedures, which can result in higher costs.

Surgical location. Procedures requiring general anesthesia in an outpatient surgical facility or hospital will include additional surgical site fees, which generally results in the total cost being higher for these procedures.

Surgeon experience and expertise. Dr. Lee is a board-certified plastic surgeon who has invested a lot of time and money into learning the most cutting-edge technology, maintaining high-quality safety protocols, and continuing his education to help deliver the best outcomes for his patients.

Minimally Invasive Facelift Recovery

The recovery necessary for these minimally invasive procedures is considerably shorter than those required for a traditional facelift. For the mid, temple, and mini facelift, patients will experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort that is often mild and resolves 1-3 weeks after the procedure. Patients should avoid strenuous exercise for up to 3 weeks to help reduce swelling.

The recovery after a liquid facelift using Botox and dermal fillers is minimal. Any redness or pain will disappear a day or two after the procedure, with the full results being visible in one to two weeks as the swelling gradually resolves. Routine activities are safe to resume immediately, but strenuous exercises and activities should be avoided for 24 hours.

Minimally Invasive Facelift Risks

The risks and complications of minimally invasive procedures are considerably less than those of other facelift procedures due to their shorter and less invasive nature. However, like all medical procedures, there are risks to consider before having a procedure performed.

The most common risks include:

  • Infections at the surgical incisions
  • Hematomas (collections of blood under the skin)
  • Seromas (collections of fluid under the skin)
  • Skin necrosis (darkening or even blackening of the skin at the incision, resulting in increased scarring)
  • Temporary facial drooping can occur with Botox injections
  • Skin reactions (redness, rashes, acne-like eruptions, and swelling) can occur with dermal fillers

Although no facelift doctor can guarantee a procedure will be free of complications, selecting surgeons with experience and expertise in performing these procedures can reduce the risk of complications.
