Laser Scar Removal
August 15, 2018
If you’ve been able to avoid surgery, you’re a pretty lucky person. Many of us have had to get something done over the years (and the longer you live the more chances you have of running into an issue). Whether you’ve had orthopedic surgery, heart surgery, or even plastic surgery from years ago you might still carry some scars from it. Though we sometimes tell ourselves that scars are “cool” or make you look tough, we know that deep down some of us really just don’t like them. Maybe we don’t like answering questions about our scars. Maybe our scars draw too much attention when we’re at the beach. Regardless of your reasoning, you don’t have to deal with your scars anymore. We offer some of the best treatments to help minimize the effect of those scars, so keep reading for some frequently asked questions about laser scar removal treatments.Laser & IPL
Who is a good candidate?Good candidates are in generally good health and have reasonable expectations for the treatment. Good candidates may also be asked to avoid being in the sun for a time before the treatment and after the treatment.
What kind of scars can be treated?Scarring from past acne breakouts, car accidents or other accidents, and even past surgeries can all generally be made less noticeable via laser scar removal treatments. Deeper scars are more difficult, and it it important to understand that scars can not be completely removed. Scars can be made to be much less noticeable, though.
How does it work?Dr. Lee utilizes the Palomar Icon which combines a fractional laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) technology to help rejuvenate skin. The fractional laser helps break down scar tissue (which is created by excess collagen) and creates new skin cell formation. Icon uses targeted lasers to penetrate the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin, creating tiny “microchannels” of skin coagulation. Healthy skin from outside of these channels responds and stimulates collagen production and formation of new, healthy skin.
How many treatments will I need?Depending on the severity of your scar, you may be asked to come back for multiple treatments. Some less noticeable scars may be sufficiently treated in one visit.
