Perlane versus Restylane

By Posted on behalf of John J.W. Lee, MD, FACS

Like Restylane, Perlane is a clear gel made from hyaluronic acid that a plastic surgeon can inject into areas of your face to add volume and smooth out wrinkles. Both dermal fillers are biocompatible and will eventually break down naturally within your body.

Although both Restylane and Perlane will plump your skin, smooth out lines and wrinkles, and restore your face to its more youthful appearance, Perlane particles are generally larger than those in Restylane. This makes Perlane a better choice for wrinkles that need a deeper injection into the skin. Dr. Lee prefers to use Restylane for your lower eyelids areas because it causes less swelling and tends to not spread from the injected area. The worse outcome from lower eyelids injection is to look puffy and swollen. Therefore, you need a fine product that holds it’s shape with fine sculpting properties.

Perlane is usually longer lasting than Restylane due to its thicker consistency. Perlane can last up to 9 to 12 months, where Restylane usually lasts up to 6-7 months. Both facial fillers are reasonably priced. Both fillers are $600 per syringe. Plastic surgeon Dr. John Lee will talk with you about which dermal filler is right for your age-defying goals.
