Better Skin Through 12 Tiny Needles
The idea of puncturing the skin to trigger a wound-healing response from the body is nothing new. It was first tried clinically in the 1950s, but there were problems with infection. Then as tattoos grew in popularity in the 1990s, attempts were made to treat scars with tattoo guns minus the ink. Following tattoo guns, skin needling rollers came on the market, but they tended to tear the skin when creating the punctures.
Microneedling has come a long way in those three decades. Now Dr. Lee provides this service for our clients from Bryn Mawr and King of Prussia with the best microneedling system in the aesthetic world, the Dermapen system.
What is Dermapen?
Awarded the “Best Professional Skin Rejuvenation Device” at THE Aesthetic Show 2012, Dermapen is a safe and effective way of restoring the skin to a healthier, younger-looking state through its unique vertical needling approach. Dermapen uses a precisely controlled stamping method to penetrate the skin to a set depth.
How does Dermapen work?
Dermapen utilizes 12 multi-speed, adjustable needles to pierce the skin layers at a 90-degree angle. These piercings cause the body to react as if it has been injured, increasing natural collagen production at the site, resulting in younger-looking skin and lessening the appearance of scars and stretch marks. This technique also allows increased absorption of topical products and their active ingredients, increasing the treatment’s effectiveness.
Because of its precision, Dermapen can be used on hard-to-reach areas on the face: the lips, nose, and the areas around the eyes. Dermapen treatments are painless (a numbing cream is used before the microneedling begins) and don’t have any downtime.
Unlike laser skin treatments, Dermapen can also be used on all skin tones without causing hyperpigmentation.
What happens afterward?
After your treatment, your skin will appear reddish and flushed as if sunburned. Our patients usually experience mild sensitivity to touch, a warm sensation, and skin tightness on the treated area for the first six hours. These symptoms rapidly diminish and by 24 hours after treatment the skin has completely healed.
Results
Patients see noticeable improvement six to eight weeks after their Dermapen procedure. These results may continue to improve over time, as the body continues to produce new collagen. During your consultation with Dr. Lee, you will be given specific instructions that you need to follow before and after the procedure to maximize your results.
