Blepharoplasty, commonly called upper eyelid surgery or lower eyelid surgery, is a facial surgical procedure that rejuvenates aging eyelids. As you grow older, the muscles around your eyes become less supportive, allowing tissue to sag and droop. Additionally, fat deposits accumulate around the eyes, causing puffiness and the appearance of bags beneath your eyes.

Blepharoplasty addresses the following eye issues:

  • Sagging upper or lower eyelids
  • Puffy bags
  • Dark circles

These things can make you look older than you feel. They can give you a tired appearance and you may be very unhappy with the way aging has affected your eyes. Droopy upper eyelids can even sag so low that you may have trouble seeing clearly.

During blepharoplasty, excess eyelid skin is strategically removed, and fat deposits and muscle are reshaped to create an alert, more youthful facial appearance. This procedure generally allows you to go home the same day, and return to your normal activities within 10 days or fewer.

The only way to find out if a procedure like blepharoplasty is right for the changes you want to achieve is to consult an experienced surgeon, like our oculoplastic surgeon Dr. John Lee.
